Cynar Black Manhattan
A whiskey-and-Cynar Manhattan variation that replaces vermouth with deep herbal bitterness and aromatic spice.
Ingredients
- 1.5 oz Rye whiskey — Bourbon may be substituted
- 1 oz Cynar — Used in place of sweet vermouth
- 2 dashes Aromatic bitters — Angostura suggested
Story
When you said you did not have simple syrup available, the conversation shifted away from the mezcal drink into something entirely bottle-based. The solution was a Black Manhattan-style structure where Cynar replaced sweet vermouth, keeping the drink rich and balanced without requiring citrus or syrup.
Method
- Add all ingredients to a mixing glass with ice.
- Stir until thoroughly chilled.
- Strain into a chilled coupe or over a large cube in a rocks glass.
- Garnish with a cherry or orange peel.
Notes
-
- Both rye whiskey and bourbon were offered as valid bases, so both are represented in the metadata.
