Ingredients

  • 2 oz Reposado tequila — Lobos 1707 — PX sherry-cask finish — recommended
  • 0.75 oz Strega
  • 2 dashes Orange bitters

Story

When I mentioned having Lobos 1707 Reposado, the conversation shifted toward the impact of barrel aging. Because Lobos is finished in Pedro Ximénez barrels, you noted it provides a deeper, fruitier backbone that could support a larger pour of Strega than the unaged Espolón or a sweeter brand like Casamigos.

Method

  1. Add the reposado, Strega, and bitters to a mixing glass with ice.
  2. Stir until well chilled (~30 seconds).
  3. Strain into a rocks glass over a single large clear ice cube.
  4. Garnish with a lemon twist for a bright acidic counterpoint to the rich sherry notes.

Notes

  • Unlike the Agave Witch (Blanco, served up), this version benefits from a large cube — the oak and agave open up as it warms.
  • The PX sherry finish acts as a natural bridge to the herbal complexity of the Strega.
