Ingredients

  • 0.75 oz Añejo tequila — Espolón Añejo recommended — the oak profile stands up to Strega/Maraschino
  • 0.75 oz Strega
  • 0.75 oz Maraschino liqueur
  • 0.75 oz Fresh lime juice

Story

After starting the snow day with a Poet’s Dream, I asked for something unique that moved away from whiskey but kept botanical intensity. You suggested a trio of Last Word riffs — a gin classic, a cognac sipper, and this. We landed on Ultima Palabra by working backwards from the base spirit: Espolón Añejo over a reposado, because the oak profile needed to stand up to the powerful herbal combo of Strega and Maraschino.

Method

  1. Add all ingredients to a shaker with plenty of ice.
  2. Shake hard for 12–15 seconds — important for aerating and diluting the aged tequila.
  3. Double strain into a chilled coupe or Nick & Nora.
  4. Garnish with a single cherry or lime twist.

Notes

  • Strega substitutes for the traditional Green Chartreuse here — more floral and saffron-forward than the original.
  • If it tastes too sweet, a tiny pinch of salt tightens the flavors.
