Beirut Negroni
This vibrant twist on the classic utilizes Lebanese pomegranate molasses to bridge the gap between bitter amaro and dry gin for a complex sipper.
Ingredients
- 1 oz gin
- 1 oz vermouth
- 1 oz campari
- 0.25 oz pomegranate molasses
Story
I asked for a Lebanese spin on a classic Negroni, and you suggested adding pomegranate molasses for depth. We were concerned the molasses might make it too syrupy, but in the final stir, it beautifully rounds out the bitterness of the Campari and the botanical profile of the gin.
Method
- Add all ingredients to a mixing glass.
- Fill with plenty of ice.
- Stir smoothly for 30 seconds to dilute and chill.
- Strain into a rocks glass over one large ice cube.
- Express the orange twist over the surface and drop it in.
Notes
- Use a high-quality, authentic pomegranate molasses; avoid cheap substitutes with added sugars.
- Stirring well is critical to integrate the thick molasses with the spirit components.
- Pair with salty mezze like halloumi or olives.
