Ingredients

  • 1 oz Mezcal
  • 0.5 oz Green Chartreuse
  • 0.25 oz Benedictine
  • 2 dashes Chocolate bitters
  • 1 barspoon Orgeat — Optional

Story

When you asked specifically for a smoky riff on the Green Chartreuse and Benedictine theme, this was the first direction suggested. The concept anchored itself in mezcal and an Old Fashioned structure, using smoke and chocolate bitters to deepen the already intense herbal profile.

Method

  1. Add mezcal, Green Chartreuse, Benedictine, chocolate bitters, and optional orgeat to a mixing glass with cubed ice.
  2. Stir until chilled and slightly softened.
  3. Strain over a large rock in a rocks glass.
  4. Express an orange peel over the drink and garnish as desired with star anise or charred rosemary.

Notes

  • Mole bitters were mentioned conversationally as an alternative to chocolate bitters.
