Monastic Sidecar
A cognac-based Sidecar variation softened with Bénédictine and structured with citrus and bitters for a warm, monastic profile.
Ingredients
- 2 oz Cognac
- 1/2 oz Bénédictine
- 1/4 oz Lemon Juice
- 1 dash Angostura Bitters
Story
This drink emerged when you asked for a cognac counterpart to the gin-based house cocktail after we had already established Bénédictine as a structural modifier. I first framed it as a Sidecar deviation, then adjusted it away from the traditional triple sec profile once you signaled preference for herbal depth over straightforward citrus sweetness. The final structure leans into warmth and spice rather than sharp acidity.
Method
- Shake all ingredients with ice, then fine strain into a chilled coupe.
