Ingredients

  • 1 oz Mezcal
  • 0.75 oz Green Chartreuse
  • 0.5 oz Benedictine
  • 0.75 oz Lime juice
  • 0.25 oz Agave syrup — Honey syrup may be substituted

Story

The smoky riff discussion eventually moved toward a sour format, resulting in this drink: mezcal and lime carrying the frame while Green Chartreuse and Benedictine created the layered herbal center. The conversation described it as “green fire and monkish mystery,” which directly informed the final tone of the drink.

Method

  1. Add all ingredients to a shaker with cubed ice.
  2. Shake hard until chilled and lightly aerated.
  3. Double strain into a coupe.
  4. Garnish with a burnt citrus wheel or apply a smoked salt rim.

Notes

  • Honey syrup was offered as an equal alternative to agave syrup in the original conversation.
