Ingredients

  • 1 oz Reposado tequila
  • 0.5 oz Mezcal
  • 0.75 oz Amaro Nonino
  • 1 dash Orange bitters

Story

You suggested this modern classic after I asked for cocktails combining Amaro Nonino and tequila. It originated at Death & Co, serving as the bridge between traditional agave spirits and Italian amari by substituting the sweetener for a botanical liqueur.

Method

  1. Combine all ingredients in a mixing glass.
  2. Add ice and stir until well chilled.
  3. Strain into a rocks glass over a large clear ice cube.
  4. Garnish with a grapefruit twist.

Notes

  • Use a lightly smoky mezcal — anything too aggressive overpowers the delicate alpine notes of the Nonino.
