Emerald Whisper
A stripped-down gin and Chartreuse martini that removes vermouth entirely for a cleaner, sharper herbal profile.
Ingredients
- 2 oz Genever or Old Tom gin
- 0.25 oz Green Chartreuse
- 1 dash Orange or cardamom bitters
Story
After the Emerald Duke was described as overly dominated by vermouth, the next round of drinks intentionally reduced or removed fortified wine entirely. This version became the cleanest expression of that idea, reducing the drink to gin, Chartreuse, and bitters.
Method
- Chill a Nick & Nora glass.
- Add all ingredients to a mixing glass with cubed ice.
- Stir until cold and properly diluted.
- Strain into the chilled glass.
- Garnish with a lemon twist or light absinthe mist.
Notes
- Later conversation clarified that genever and Old Tom gin were unavailable to the user — see Verdant Blade for the London Dry-only refinement that followed.
