Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 oz Reposado tequila
  • 1/2 oz Sweet vermouth
  • 1/2 oz Dry vermouth
  • 1/2 oz Campari
  • 1 dash Angostura bitters

Story

As the recommendations broadened from martini-style tequila drinks into more bitter and complex territory, this became the clear aperitif option. I framed it as “essentially a tequila Negroni served up,” which anchored the expectation immediately: herbal, bitter, and spirit-forward, but softer and earthier because of the reposado tequila and split vermouth structure.

Method

  1. Chill a coupe thoroughly.
  2. Add all ingredients to a mixing glass with ice.
  3. Stir until chilled and properly diluted.
  4. Strain into the chilled coupe.
  5. Garnish with an orange twist.

Notes

  • “Angostura bitters” is included in ingredients but omitted from spirits because bitters are usually categorized separately from bottled spirits and modifiers.
