Cloistered Martini
A Hendrick's-driven martini variation using Bénédictine and dry vermouth to create a restrained, floral-herbal spirit-forward drink.
Ingredients
- 2 oz Hendrick's Gin
- 1/2 oz Dry Vermouth
- 1/4 oz Bénédictine
- 1 dash Orange Bitters
Story
This drink came directly from your request for cocktails using Bénédictine, after we had already explored its role in spirit-forward builds. I initially proposed several approaches, but when you narrowed the focus toward structured house cocktails, you asked for a gin-based anchor. I then shifted away from heavier London Dry formulations and designed specifically around Hendrick’s, emphasizing its cucumber-rose profile. The result was this restrained “martini framework” where Bénédictine is used as connective tissue rather than sweetness.
Method
- Stir all ingredients with ice until well chilled. Strain into a chilled coupe or Nick & Nora glass.
