Nonino Agave Sour

A sophisticated, low-acid sour bridging the gap between earthy tequila and the burnt-orange sweetness of Amaro Nonino.

Ingredients

  • 1.5 oz Blanco tequila
  • 0.75 oz Amaro Nonino
  • 0.5 oz Coffee liqueur — Luxardo Del Santo — Strega substitutes for a sweeter finish
  • 0.5 oz Fresh lemon juice

Story

This drink was created to tie together several of my favorite elements: tequila, Amaro Nonino, and the new herbal liqueurs we discussed. You suggested it as a low-acid alternative to the more aggressive sours. The Nonino acts as a mellowing agent, connecting the sharp agave of the tequila to the intense botanical spice of the Del Santo.

Method

  1. Add all ingredients to a shaker with ice.
  2. Shake vigorously to integrate the dense amaro and liqueur.
  3. Strain into a chilled coupe.

Notes

  • The reduced lemon (0.5 oz) is intentional — lets the Amaro Nonino’s complexity shine.
  • If using Strega instead of Del Santo, stick with a very dry blanco to prevent it from becoming overly sweet.
