Ingredients

  • 1.5 oz Mezcal
  • 0.5 oz Dry vermouth
  • 0.25 oz Green Chartreuse
  • 1 dash Orange bitters

Story

While exploring martini variations, the conversation branched into smoky territory with mezcal replacing gin. This drink combined smoke, dry vermouth, and Chartreuse into a layered herbal martini. Later, the vermouth balance became the catalyst for a new round of leaner riffs.

Method

  1. Chill a coupe glass.
  2. Combine all ingredients in a mixing glass with cubed ice.
  3. Stir until well chilled.
  4. Strain into the chilled glass.
  5. Garnish with an orange twist.

Notes

  • Later discussion noted that the dry vermouth overpowered the drink for the user’s palate — the vermouth-light Emerald Whisper and Verdant Blade are the lean-forward response to that feedback.
