Emerald Duke
A smoky martini-style cocktail built from mezcal, dry vermouth, and Green Chartreuse with restrained citrus bitterness.
Ingredients
- 1.5 oz Mezcal
- 0.5 oz Dry vermouth
- 0.25 oz Green Chartreuse
- 1 dash Orange bitters
Story
While exploring martini variations, the conversation branched into smoky territory with mezcal replacing gin. This drink combined smoke, dry vermouth, and Chartreuse into a layered herbal martini. Later, the vermouth balance became the catalyst for a new round of leaner riffs.
Method
- Chill a coupe glass.
- Combine all ingredients in a mixing glass with cubed ice.
- Stir until well chilled.
- Strain into the chilled glass.
- Garnish with an orange twist.
Notes
- Later discussion noted that the dry vermouth overpowered the drink for the user’s palate — the vermouth-light Emerald Whisper and Verdant Blade are the lean-forward response to that feedback.
